With so many choice out there it can be hard to find the best laptop cooler for your needs. With the best laptop coolers section of our buyers guide we will keep an up to date list of the Best Laptop Coolers!
The Best Laptop Coolers
10) Logitech 700 Speaker Lapdesk Laptop Cooler
The Logitech 700 speaker lapdesk is not a particularly powerful laptop cooler. What makes the Logitech 700 special however is the beautiful smooth curved design, and the built in high quality Logitech speakers. The inclusion of Logitech’s high quality audio in to this laptop cooler makes it the perfect accessory for those people who use their laptop a lot for home entertainment.
Since the actual cooling fan in the Logitech N700 is fairly weak this is not the best laptop cooler for people who have a hot laptop. However, the design of the N700 has been made so that you can easily use your laptop on your lap, on the bed sheets, or even on the floor, without having to worry about your laptops air vents becoming blocked.
While this laptop cooler is probably not for everyone, it is ideal for the casual laptop user who watches movies and listens to music on their laptop around the home. The speakers themselves are of an extremely high quality, which is perfect of you are getting sick of low quality laptop speakers, but don’t want to have to carry a set of external speakers everywhere you go.
The price of the Logitech N700 is also a little bit high, although if you factor in the fact that this is both a set of speakers and a laptop cooler, the price suddenly becomes much more resonable!
9) Xpad Slim Laptop Pad
The Xpad slim laptop pad is a passive laptop cooler, that means it has no fans. While a laptop cooler with no fans might not seem like such a good idea, in practice the Xpad Slim can provide uninterrupted airflow to your laptop, which is useful if you use your laptop all around your home.
Since the Xpad Slim does not create any additional airflow, it does not provide a huge amount of cooling power, so should not be considered as a solution for an overheating notebook. Instead it should be used by those people who have a relatively cool (Usually older) laptop, that people want to use in more comfortable situations around the home, where there may be a danger of unintentionally blocking the air vents.
The Xpad Slim does have another advantage, the base is actually a ‘heat shield’ so if you use your laptop on your lap, it will keep your legs cool, no matter how hot your laptop gets!
One question often asked regarding the Xpad slim is why people should buy this, and not just use a piece or wood or similar. The one major advantage the Xpad slim has is in it’s ‘X’ design. This design helps manage your laptops airflow, separating the hot air from the cool air, preventing your laptop from simply recirculating the hot air it has already exhausted.
8) Antec Designer Laptop Cooler
The Antec Designer laptop cooler is a very nice looking laptop cooler, designed for the business professional who needs to keep their laptop cool, with a professional, attractive laptop cooler.
The Antec Designer is designed to work for it’s target audience, it’s functionality and features are not the best, but rather what is needed by a businessman.
To start with the internal fan is a single small (but quiet) 110mm fan. This will not cool a high powered laptop, but it will keep a standard laptop cool and ‘lag free’ if you are for instance running a video as part of a presentation. The look and structure is also designed for the office professional. It is made to fit a 15 inch laptop, and the style of the Antec Designer is sleek and slim, making it both portable and professional looking.
One downside also worth mentioning that the Antec designer does not include a USB pass through port or USB hub, which may be an inconvenience if you have several peripherals.
Despite having one of the lowest price tags of the best laptop coolers, it is a well made laptop cooler, and will perform reliably, so you will not get let down mid-meeting.
7) Targus Lap Chill Pad
The Targus Lap Chill Pad is being included because it is so, well, average. If you are not looking for anything special the Targus laptop cooler is a good all rounder, it has an average price, average cooling capabilities, average reliability.
The no-frills Tragus Lap Chill Pad is however well designed. It is light weight, easily transportable and perfect for lap use. While it’s design is not the most efficient for cooling, it does look good, and is perfect for quick and simple set-up.
The Targus Chill Pad does lack nearly every single type of extra functionality, and does not even have a USB pass through port. While this is not a big issue for some, it is definitely a large negative factor for many laptop users.
Inside the Targus Lap Chill Pad there are two fans which provide adequate cooling, although it is mostly focused in one spot, the metal grill does however help distribute the heat a little for more effective cooling.
6) Zalman NC2500 Plus
The Zalman NC2500 Plus is an ingenious laptop cooler, and contains more functionality than any other laptop cooler I have ever seen. On top of the fan speed wheel, power indicator, four port USB hub and on off switch, the Zalman NC2500 plus also includes a 2.5 inch hard drive enclosure, so you can add a little extra hard drive space to your laptop computer. Not everyone will need this feature, but for graphic designers, or people who have a lot of music, you will probably really enjoy this added feature. (The hard drive is not included with the laptop, but you can easily buy a cheap 2.5 inch hard drive, and quickly install it inside this cooler!).
Despite the fact the fact that the Zalman NC2500 plus incorporates a heat generating hard drive, it is a surprisingly effective notebook cooler. While it won’t sufficiently cool a gaming laptop, the cooling power will be more than sufficient for most users.
The Zalman NC2500 Plus helps cool with two 50mm silent fans. These don’t give the greatest airflow in the world, but since they are supported by Zalman’s 3mm thick aluminum framework they are fairly effective.
5) Antec Notebook Cooler 200
The Antec Notebook Cooler 200 is an effective tech-looking notebook cooler that provides fairly good cooling and reliable performance.
A Large high quality quiet running 200mm fan helps provide a large amount of airflow, without a large amount of noise, this provides powerful cooling, without the associated noise. The Antec 200 is let down a little by it’s plastic framework. This is not particularly effective at transferring heat away from the hot spots inside your computer. It does however help keep the Antec 200 light weight, and the high quality plastic is strong and sturdy, so will not easily become damaged.
Considering the amount of care that has been put in to the quality of this laptop cooling, it is surprising therefore that the Antec 200 does not contain a USB pass through port or a USB hub. It does contain a two speed fan speed switch, and it also has a blue LED light that looks pretty cool, but a USB pass through port would have definitely been a useful addition.
4) NZXT Cryo LX Laptop Cooler
The NZXT Cryo LX is one of the most powerful laptop coolers that you can buy. It contains three 120mm fans for exceptional airflow. While this is not the quietest setup, it means that the NZXT can keep even the most powerful of gaming laptops cool.
The overall construction of the NZXT Cryo LX is excellent, it’s sturdy aluminum frame can be folded up, making it a portable, light weight and sturdy laptop cooler. The aluminum construction is also perfect for dissipating and distributing heat effectively.
While the NZXT Cryo LX is a little noisier than many laptop coolers, the quality of the fans means that the noise does not become excessive. It definitely never overshadows the noise of the games you might be playing on a gaming laptop.
3) Thermaltake Massive23 LX Laptop Cooler
The Thermaltake Massive23 LX is a behemoth of a laptop cooler, capable of holding a 19 inch laptop with ease. Inside the large casing (Equipped with carrying handles) a huge 230mm fan helps push a large amount of air over your laptop without creating a lot of noise.
While the Thermaltake Massive 23 LX is fairly feature poor, it is also one of the cheapest of the best laptop coolers available. it has no USB pass through, or fan speed wheel. It does however have a seperate on/off switch for the fan and the LED light, which is fairly useful if you need your laptop cooler, but are somewhere where a blue light might not be appropriate.
Along with the cheap price does come the problem of the low quality. While the Thermaltake Massive 23 LX does not use the cheapest components, it definitely does not use the highest quality components. This does mean that the Thermaltake Massive 23 LX can feel a little cheap, and you do need to be a little more careful with it.
For the price this is probably the best laptop cooler deal you are going to get. But there are some better laptop coolers out there, which might be worth the investment.
2) Cooler Master Storm
The Cooler Master Storm is a new 19 inch notebook cooler which has some pretty sweet features that utilise some of the latest technology.
Lets start with the basics though, the Cooler Master Storm has a large plastic framework with a large metal mesh capable of holding 19 inch widescreen laptops and effectively keeping hot areas cool. This casing houses two ‘turbine fans’, each of which is 140mm in size. These provide effective cooling, with moderately low noise levels, although it is not the quietest laptop cooler available.
The Cooler Master Storm SF-19 is first and foremost a gaming laptop cooler. It has the power and the looks to keep your laptop cool while you play even the most intensive of games on your laptop. In keeping with the high tech edge though, the Cooler Master Storm is the only laptop cooler at time of writing to give the option of a 4 port USB 3.0 hub, for ultra fast data transfer!
1) Zalman NC3000U Best Laptop Cooler
The Zalman NC3000U is the best laptop cooler out there. While it might not be the most powerful, it is generally good enough to keep nearly any laptop cool, and the large 220mm fan inside the sturdy aluminum framework runs near silent. The high quality of this laptop cooler is evident from the moment you pick it up, and with a fan life expectancy up to 4 times higher than some other laptop coolers only go on to enhance the quality of this product.
The Zalman NC3000U definitely has a professional feel to it. The high quality and the sleek look make it feel a little business like and it will easily look at home in a home or office environment.
While the Zalman NC3000U is first and foremost a quiet laptop cooler, it does cool remarkable well. The 3mm thick aluminum construction effectively transfers heat away from problem areas, and the fan (though silent) can push through a large amount of air effortlessly.
Feature-wise the Zalman NC3000U comes with a fan speed wheel, on/off switch and a power indicator light. It also includes a four port USB hub, which can optionally be powered by an external adapter. You can also buy the Zalman NC3000S, which for a few dollars less has a USB pass through port instead of the USB hub, personally though I think this is no contest, the USB hub is infinately more useful.
